Safari, Australian Snorkels

Safari is an Australian manufacturer of raised air intakes, and it is one of the original names in the category. Australian conditions, deep dust, river crossings and enormous distances between workshops, made the snorkel a standard fitment there long before it became common elsewhere.

What a snorkel does

Three things. It raises the air intake above the wading line so the engine cannot ingest water, which destroys an engine instantly through hydraulic lock. It takes air from above the dust cloud that a vehicle generates, dramatically extending air filter life. And it feeds cooler, denser, cleaner air to the engine, which supports performance.

The Armax range

Safari's Armax snorkels use a computational fluid dynamics developed air ram head and an increased internal cross section, designed to deliver more airflow than the factory intake rather than merely relocating it. On a modern turbo diesel, intake restriction directly limits what the engine can do.

Construction

Bodies are rotationally moulded from UV stabilised polyethylene in a single piece, with model specific templates, mounting hardware and sealing supplied. Installation requires drilling the wing panel, so a template and careful measurement matter.
