G3, Italian Snow Chains and Roof Systems

G3 is an Italian manufacturer of snow chains, roof bars, roof boxes and transport accessories. Italy has a long tradition in snow chain manufacturing, driven by Alpine motoring requirements that are strict, well enforced and much older than the equivalent rules elsewhere in Europe.

Snow chains

G3 produces chains across the range from compact 7 mm and 9 mm links for vehicles with tight wheel arch clearance, through to heavier patterns for SUVs, 4x4s and commercial vehicles. The critical specification is not the chain itself but the clearance your vehicle allows between tyre and suspension, which is why manufacturers publish a minimum link thickness per model.

Fitting systems

Modern G3 chains use self tensioning mechanisms that take up slack automatically after the first few metres, which removes the old requirement to stop and re-tension. Several ranges fit entirely from the outside of the wheel, so you never reach behind the tyre in slush.

Roof bars and boxes

G3 also produces aerofoil roof bars with vehicle specific fitting kits, roof boxes, bike carriers and ski holders.

Legal note

Snow chains must be certified to the relevant standard to be legal, and in some Alpine countries chains are mandatory on marked routes regardless of tyre type.
