GDW, Belgian Towbar Manufacturing

GDW is a Belgian manufacturer of towbars and towing equipment, producing vehicle specific hitches for passenger cars, SUVs, pick-ups and light commercial vehicles across the European market.

Type approval as the baseline

GDW towbars are manufactured and tested to European type approval requirements. Each hitch is supplied with its approval certificate, the D value, the maximum vertical load and the model specific fitting instructions. This documentation is not paperwork for its own sake: in Romania it is what allows the towbar to be entered correctly on the vehicle registration at the RAR inspection.

The configurations

Flange ball hitches take a bolt on ball and are the most versatile, because the same hitch accepts height adjustable couplings, bike carriers and stabilisers. Swan neck hitches give a cleaner look with the ball formed into the neck. Detachable systems allow the ball to be removed and stored when it is not needed, which keeps the rear of the vehicle clean and the parking sensors unobstructed.

Electrics

Vehicle specific 7 pin and 13 pin wiring kits are available, including versions with dedicated modules for CAN bus vehicles.
