Sheriff, Steel Underbody Skid Plates

Sheriff supplies steel underbody protection for off-road and expedition vehicles. It is a single purpose product line covering the components that sit lowest on a vehicle and are the first thing to meet a rock, a tree stump or the hidden edge of a pothole.

What is at risk without protection

The engine sump, gearbox casing, transfer case, fuel tank and differential housings are cast aluminium or thin pressed steel, and they hang below the chassis rails. A single impact can crack a sump, and once the oil is out the engine has minutes. On a forestry track or a mountain route in Romania, that failure typically happens a long way from any workshop.

Why steel

Steel plate is heavier than aluminium but it deforms rather than cracking under a hard point impact, it can be hammered back into shape in the field, and it costs considerably less. For a vehicle that is used hard and repaired as it goes rather than kept immaculate, that trade is often the right one.

Fitting

Plates mount to existing chassis and subframe points with the supplied brackets, and service openings are positioned so oil changes do not require removal.
