Steinbauer, Austrian Engine Tuning

Steinbauer is an Austrian manufacturer of engine tuning modules for diesel and petrol engines, working across passenger cars, 4x4s, commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery and marine applications.

How the module works

A Steinbauer module sits between the engine's sensors and the ECU, modifying the signals that govern fuelling and injection timing. Critically, it works alongside the factory ECU rather than replacing its programming, so all the manufacturer's protection strategies remain active. If the engine reports a fault, over temperature or excessive pressure, the original ECU responds exactly as it would without the module.

What it delivers

Typical gains are in power and, more usefully for a working vehicle, in mid range torque. Torque is what determines whether a loaded pick-up climbs a gradient without changing down, and whether a tow vehicle feels composed or strained.

Reversible installation

Because the module is a physical component rather than a software change, it can be removed completely, returning the vehicle to standard with nothing left behind in the ECU.
